Sexy little boys and girls

This is probably a common concern, and I'm just late to the debate, but I figured I'd blog about my opinion on society's reaction to sex and juveniles.

Puberty has many stages and most people usually identify just a few obvious ones.  From start to finish, the whole process takes children and turns them into adults.  By adults, i mean that they are able to sexually reproduce.  That process is happening younger and younger as time passes.  From documentation that started back in 1840, girls have been going into puberty 4 months younger every decade.  There has been a recent increase in the age drop since 2006.  There are plenty of studies which say this all results from diet, chemicals, and genetics.  So, in a nutshell, girls are becoming young women about 6-7 years sooner then when anyone started keeping track.  These days boys and girls can reproduce at about 13 years old on average.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty)

Now, I'm not saying that 13 year olds are old enough to deal with the consequences of sex, but I am saying that they are going to want to do it and that "want" is as healthy has a hunger for food, a thirst for water, or a gasp for air.  Teach kids about masturbation, make sure they understand the benefits of safe sex, and make sure you parents are giving them love and attention, so they don't go looking for it.

Okay, here is what I'm getting at:  Do you think we have a double standard for boys and girls becoming adults?  It seems like society can't wait for boys to become men, but wants girls to stay girls.  Dads can't wait to show their sons how to shave.  They can't wait for their sons to have the brass balls to ask a girl out on a date.  Buying a boy clothes at a young age so he can look older and impress the girls at school isn't discouraged by anyone... at least i don't think parents try to make young boys look as young as possible.  HOWEVER, ask most fathers what they think about their daughters wearing makeup and flirtatious clothing in middle school, and you will get a totally different attitude.  It's just obvious to me that most parents want boys to become men, and girls to stay girls.

"Sexy" is getting younger and younger.  I'm not talking about the word "pretty."  Children can be pretty or handsome at any age.  Flowers, paintings, and music can be pretty.  You can tell your mother she looks pretty.  But the word "sexy" is a different ball game.  Sexy implies that a person appears sexual, right?  So in my perspective, an eight year old girl shouldn't be made to look sexy with clothing or makeup.  Pretty, yes... sexy, no!  Same with boys, but I think it's less of an issue.  I'm not sure what an eight year old boy could do to his appearance to advertise his sexuality... but whatever it is, eight is too young.  But is thirteen too young for makeup?  You're saying "yes" because you don't want 13 year olds to be sexual.  That makes sense.  But they are sexual.  If not literally, they are mentally.  Regardless of what YOU want, teenage boys and girls WANT to be seen as attractive to each other.  That's NORMAL and HEALTHY!  So, does trying to prevent them from appearing sexy stop them from wanting to be seen as sexual?  Nope.

I guess it comes down to trust.  If you trust your teenagers to make their education their priority, instead of their life revolving around what they think is love, then you probably don't mind them trying to be sexy.  If you think they'll throw away their future's opportunities by being over-focused on sex, then I can see why you want them to stay children.  I guess you need to do what you got to do to trust them.

I lost My Job

Well part of me likes to think there would be an uproar and a giant mutiny after they fired me, but realistically i know it will just scare everyone into doing exactly what the leadership wants everyone to do.

 

Part of me thinks this was because i went to the bathroom "too much." But, since they cant hold that against me legally, they lumped it together with shortcalls to say it was "work avoidance."  On paper i looked good.  My shortcall % (less then 30 second calls) was great, my adherence and availability was like 99% and i was getting ME's on all my DS's... so on paper they got nothing on me.  SO they just make up problems (that aren't really problems) like "your calls are too short" even though there isn't an expectation given anywhere that says how long or how short a call should be.  And this whole "You need to pull up every account" garbage?  When did that become policy?  Whatever happened to general information calls?  I'm guessing that all went out the window when the company decided that profit was it's first priority.  Either way, they made a new unofficial rule, and i guess it's a fire-able offense.

 

The examples they gave me of short calls i did were fabricated or exaggerated.  I asked to hear the recordings and I was never shown them... obviously.  Was there times i transferred calls to FS without pulling up the account?  Yes.  After i asked if they had any account questions, and they said no, i would transfer them.  And this was something Claudia TOLD ME I could do in early March.  Then yesterday she said she never said that.

 

They didn't like my attitude about NOT milking every dollar out of the customers.  They didn't like that I was smarter then my coach.  They didn't like that I knew my rights and couldn't be bullied into not using the restroom.  So they just created a problem that isn't really a problem and then fired me for it, even after I did what they asked of me.  I have no shame or guilt.  It was in the leaders agenda to silence me, before I gave anyone else the idea that they stand up for themselves, and try to save the customers money.

 

Honestly, the steps I would have needed to take and the hoops that I would have needed to jump through go against my moral code.  It is better this way.  I regret losing a job that paid my bills, gave me a desk, and great coworkers... but I don't regret who I am or how I did my job.

 

There are three kinds of employees:  The kool-ade drinkers, the actors, and the realists.  Which one are you?  Do you honestly believe that the leaders who are responsible for increasing the value of stock really know MORE about what's best for the customer then you; Someone who talks to customers everyday?  Can you at least act like you believe it, even if you don't?  Or do you endanger your job by voicing your opinions and in turn get labeled with a "pessimistic" label?  Honestly, only one of these roles will lead to longevity in this company.  Belief and blind faith can be lost with the right evidence... and independence is the enemy of a blind-faith leadership structure.  If you want to keep getting paid, friends, i suggest you learn how to "act."

Looking for big dudes

I know the subject of this blog sounds weird.  Oh well.

I do a competitive style of Tai-chi called Push Hands and I'm going to be competing in a tournament in September.

I doubt I can cut 46 lbs in 4 months, so I will be competing in the men's heavyweight category (201+).

Fitness Apps

To summarize why I use health apps on my phone is for the convenience and for phone capabilities like GPS tracking, barcode scanning, and the mobile internet connection.
This is why I log my food, pushups, and tai-chi with MyFitnessPal and my outdoor cardio workouts with RunKeeper.

The reason the tracking and logging is important to me, is because I want to share my results with my friends, family, and most importantly my doctors.
This is why I log everything into Google.com/Health

I use MyFitnessCompanion on my phone, because if I'm Checking my blood pressure or getting lab results, this mobile app is convenient.  Most importantly, it automatically syncs the info with Google Health.

I use the 100Pushups app on my phone because it coaches me through doing pushups.  It has helped improve the number I can do.  It doesn't log results, so I have to re-enter it into MyFitnessPal and Google Health.

If MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper, and 100Pushups could all sync with Google Health (the way MyFitnessCompanion does), this would make my life much easier.  I would be willing to pay a chunk of money for that convenience.  Let me repeat that... I will pay you, fitness app companies.  As much as I appreciate your free apps, I will drop you in an instant for companies who sync.  I will pay them too, even if they don't work as well.  So please, take my money and give me that convenience.

Self improvement? Naaaaaa!

Today I forgot to take my pills, so my attitude is different then it should be.

Ever notice there is a lot of goal setting on life?  A lot of goals for 110% and all that?  Many jobs are all about removing the human trend of "flaw" by always recognizing our imperfections and reminding us about our constant opportunities for improvement.

I get the game plan.  Aim for 110% so that you score a 95% and still ace the fucker.  But come on, who wants to always feel like there is always room for improvement... Even if there is?

I get tired of that real fast.  I think because I'm content with being "okay" at stuff.  I don't buy into that "If you're not first, you're last" bullshit.  Everyone can't be the best.  I accept "mediocrity" as a triumph over "sucking."

I'm not saying we should keep doing things that don't work just because we dont want to change.

I don't know what I'm saying.

Ever read the book "Who Moved My Cheese?"  Well, its bullshit.  Read it.  If you like its message, you probably don't get where I'm coming from.  If you think its crap, I applaud your ability to see in-between the black and white world of pessimism and optimism.

Politics, I guess

I wanted to take a moment to describe myself.  Not my hobbies or stuff like that.  All the stuff I’m not aloud to talk about at family gatherings and in the work place.  I figure it’s only appropriate here, because only people who agree with me with keep reading, and everyone who doesn’t will probably just close this and do something else.  I like to think that I have no definite stance and that I can’t be classified a certain political title.  However; I’m sure you’ll think of names to call me.

1. This is not a Christian nation.  I love that Americans have the freedom to be Christians, any other religion, or lack thereof.  I don’t care if you worship your toaster.  I just don’t want toaster-propaganda taught in public schools or toaster-law given any credit in the court room.  Everyone in America should have freedom from toasters.
2. Abortion is a weird one.  If you think it’s wrong for a religious reason, then your opinion is discredited by my first comment.  If you think it’s wrong because you think it’s killing a baby (not religious) then that’s a fair opinion.  People can argue all day and night about when it’s a baby and it’s not just a sloppy mess.  Where I stand on it is this… and this is just me… I went to one of those “Body Works” things at the museum and it showed different fetuses’ at different stages of the pregnancy.  There were some stages where I said “this isn’t a baby yet” and some where I said “yeah, it’s a baby at this point.”  I don’t remember where that point was, but I would say that point is where I think the difference of good idea and bad idea is for an abortion.  Okay, so that’s all my opinion.  I don’t think the law should be my opinion.  That line in the sand could be somewhere else for someone else, and I don’t think its right to create a law telling people what they can and can’t do with their own body.  Wishful thinking is that both sides could just compromise, like: no abortions after ___ months of the pregnancy, unless the mother’s health is in danger.  That might already be the case, in which nothing needs to be changed… in my opinion.
3. Money.  I’m going to make this as short as possible.  I think the country should act like a team or a family.  This would require we all care a little about one another.  So since that’s not going to happen, I don’t know what the solution is.  Here is my idea for taxes:  We establish how much money is the minimal amount an individual would need to live a comfortable life (I have no idea what would set that standard… lets just call it the “poverty line”).  Then, we tax everyone and equal percentage on the amount OVER that poverty line.  So, a poor person living under the poverty line would pay no taxes.  Someone who makes $1 over that line would pay the same tax percentage on their $1 as someone would pay who made $1 billion over that limit.  That just seems fair.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’m crazy.
4. I think public teachers should have SUCH good benefits and get paid SO much that teachers would be fighting over the chance to be able to teach at a public school in the ghetto.  Then schools could hire the best teachers.  This results in are youth doing better in life, and paying taxes so you can retire someday.  Also, by paying top dollar for top notch teachers, we eliminate the need for private schools, which solves the problem of children being raised to believe that “toaster-facts” are true, just so they get a better education.  And stop cutting the budgets on the people who stop your house from burning down!  That just doesn’t make sense!  Give them as much money as they need!
5. I’m not a racist.  Any political opinion you have that’s rooted in some kind of racism is not credible.  Stop talking. Stop voting.  Stop breathing.
